Asbestos is a harmful material found in many household building products such as:

Interior walls and ceilings: acoustical tiles, glue dots, plaster, and textured surfaces
Exterior walls: cement siding, stucco
Flooring: vinyl tiles, sheet vinyl, some mastic adhesives
Insulation/fireproofing: block, boiler, spray-applied, vermiculite, monokote, sink undercoating, thermal system insulation (fiberglass, cellulose, and mineral wool are exempt)
Gaskets: furnace, mechanical, boiler, wood stove (automotive gaskets are exempt)
Heating: white paper or seam tape on ducts, air-duct cement and insulation
Roofing materials: tar paper, felt, silver/white roofing paint, Nicolite paper
Fire doors, fire/kiln brick and fireproofing
Various compounds: window glazing, adhesives, caulks, patching, mastics, vapor barrier products (plastic or synthetic materials such as Tyvek are exempt)
Electrical: switch gear, circuit boxes and fuse panels; wiring with cloth insulation (Romex wiring is exempt)
PLEASE NOTE: Flat/built-up roofing is not accepted at the transfer station, even if customers present negative analytical test results.

Asbestos Testing Information

It is required that you identify all construction, remodeling and demolition materials at the Columbia County Transfer Station scalehouse. All parties involved (generator, contractor and hauler) may be held responsible for asbestos found in materials or positive asbestos tests above zero percent asbestos. Follow the instructions below.

If the construction, remodeling or demolition materials are from a home or rv that was built before 2004. Fill out the form and get the material surveyed/tested.
1. To test material, fill out this form with Atlas Labs, get a bag from the scalehouse, put the material sample in the bag and then into the Atlas Labs drop box container at the Columbia County Transfer Station. Atlas will contact you for payment for the service and contact you about the results.
2. Material that tests positive for asbestos, even one percent, is NOT accepted at the transfer station.
  - If asbestos is present, we recommend you hire an asbestos abatement contractor for proper handling and disposal as it requires special equipment and training.
  - List of landfills that accept asbestos material . You are required to notify the landfill prior to disposal.
If the construction, remodeling or demolition materials are from a home or rv that was built after 2004. Fill out the form and no asbestos testing is required.
