Residential Garbage and Recycling Collection Services

Columbia County's two franchisee haulers or service providers are Hudson Garbage dba Waste Connections and WM for residential garbage and recycling collection services. Please contact your service provider about collection services. Their contact information can be found on this page.

Collection service reminders:

• Place carts at the curb the night before or by 6am on the scheduled service day.
• Place carts at least 3 feet away from any other cart and 6 feet from vehicles.

Holidays (Service providers do not collect on these holidays). If your service falls on or after a holiday, your service will be delayed by one day.

Residential collection service areas: Clatskanie, Columbia City, Deer Island, Goble, Prescott, Rainier, St. Helens, Warren and Yankton

Collection container colors and sizes: Garbage (grey cart) 35-gallon, 65-gallon or 95-gallon, Recycling (green cart) 65-gallon and 95-gallon, Yard debris (brown cart) 95-gallon

Services by area, frequency (weekly or every other week), and what type of service (garbage, recycling, yard debris):

 Recycling accepted items (all recyclables must be clean, empty and dry):

• Cartons: milk and juice
• Cardboard: all corrugated cardboard - flattened
• Paper: newspaper, paper bags, paperback books, magazines, catalogs, scrap paper, printer/copy paper, cereal boxes, junk mail, egg cartons.
• Metal: aluminum, steel and tin cans, foil, scrap metal (metal cooking pots), empty paint cans, and empty aerosols.
• Plastic: bottles, jugs, yogurt tubs (6 oz. or larger), buckets (5 gal. or smaller), rigid plant pots (4 inch or larger).

Recycling unaccepted items:

• Automobile parts
• Christmas tree lights
• Deli containers, take-out containers also known as clamshells, berry or fruit containers
• Frozen food boxes (any wet strength paper), frozen juice containers 
• Garden hose
• Glass (Glass is not collected curbside with Hudson Garbage) please drop off at the nearest recycling drop-off location.
• Metal longer than 18” or heavier than 5lbs
• Motor oil - drop off at the Columbia County Transfer Station for free.
• Paper towels, cups
• Plastic bags - considered garbage or please drop off at select plastic film recycling locations.
• Plastic cups
• Shredded paper
• Soiled/dirty paper
• Styrofoam - considered garbage or drop off at Green Century Recycling to be recycled.
• Straws
• Wax-coated paper

Yard debris accepted items:

• Brush, lawn clippings, leaves, plant trimming/pruning, sawdust

Yard debris unaccepted items:

• Bricks, dirt, food waste, gravel, metal, paper, plastic, rocks

Hazardous or items that do not belong in the trash, recycling or yard debris:

• Antifreeze or motor oil
• Appliances
• Asbestos
• Ashes, hot or cold
• Car batteries
• Chemicals
• Dead animals

• Liquid paint
• Medical waste such as medical sharps and medications. It is illegal in Oregon to throw sharps in the trash or recycling bins. Find more information on free drop off locations here.
