Volunteer Opportunity

Welcome to the County Volunteer Program!

Thank you for choosing to volunteer with Columbia County. There are many opportunities within Columbia County where you can share your time and talent.  Ever consider being a Park Host?  Our Parks and Recreation department may be just the right fit!  We also have several positions within the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, including Animal Control, Reserve Deputy, Jail and General Office positions, Search and Rescue and the Mounted Posse.  Our Board of Commissioners have founded several commissions and committees to help guide and inform our commissioners, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for to contribute to your community.

It's important that our volunteers are informed and knowledgeable about the volunteer program offered by Columbia County.   Below are a few things to know when considering a volunteer position.

For one-time or special event volunteering:

  • A Registration and Waiver Form made available by County staff will need to be signed by each participating volunteer at the event.

For ongoing volunteer positions, here is a brief summary:

  • An online application will be required for all volunteer positions.
  • A background inquiry will be required for most volunteer positions, especially for roles that will have contact with minors, vulnerable populations, or that will handle money for the County.
  • The County's Volunteer Agreement shall be read, signed and acknowledged by each volunteer.
  • The County's Volunteer Handbook shall be read, signed and acknowledged by each volunteer.
  • The County's Confidentiality Agreement, if position requires, shall be read, signed and acknowledged by the volunteer.
  • Each volunteer shall provide the County with a completed Emergency Contact form.
  • Each volunteer will be provided a Volunteer Orientation, either individually or as a group.
  • Parent or Guardian Waivers shall be read, signed and acknowledged by Parent or Guardian for children between the ages of 7 and 17.

We are excited to have you join our volunteer program - let's see if we have the opportunity that is right for you!
