CC Rider Announces New Transit Route from St. Helens to Rainier

Route enhances local access and links riders to Longview

Columbia County’s Transit Department, CC Rider, will launch a new weekday bus route this summer between St. Helens and Rainier, with connections to Longview, Washington through RiverCities Transit.

The new service will link St. Helens to the Rainier Transit Center, where riders can transfer to RiverCities Transit, which operates four round-trip buses each weekday between Rainier and Longview. CC Rider buses will be scheduled to meet the first and last RiverCities Transit buses of the day.

“This route strengthens local and regional connections for Columbia County residents,” said Chris Wheatley, Transit Director. “It supports access to essential services, increases transportation options for those without vehicles, and makes better use of existing infrastructure like the Rainier Transit Center.”

The route supports several county priorities:

  • Regional connectivity: Links residents to employment centers, medical services, and educational institutions, including Lower Columbia College and OMIC/PCC.
  • Economic development: Improves access to work and supports local businesses by increasing foot traffic in St. Helens and Rainier.
  • Universal access: Offers affordable public transportation for seniors, youth, people with disabilities, and others who may not have access to a vehicle.
  • Environmental sustainability: Helps reduce vehicle traffic and emissions, particularly along Highway 30 and across regional bridges.
  • Planning alignment: Utilizes the Rainier Transit Center and supports broader efforts to expand transit options in rural and underserved areas.
