Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Clatskanie on Saturday, October 1st, 8 A.M. - Noon

Transport all household hazardous waste in your vehicle's bed, trunk, or hatchback, not the passenger compartment. Since extra safety measures will be in place, unloading may take a few additional minutes. Please be patient, and please remain in your car.

The city of Clatskanie will host a county-sponsored Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 8 a.m. until noon. The HHW Event will be held at the Clatskanie City Park. You can drop off various toxic and unsafe household materials at no cost.

Trained household hazardous waste technicians will unload materials from your vehicle. Items must be in containers of less than five (5) gallons and should be secured safely during transport.

Examples of acceptable items are:

  • lawn and garden chemicals
  • herbicides and pesticides
  • pool and spa chemicals
  • light ballasts
  • remove from light fixtures
  • fluorescent tubes
  • art and hobby chemicals
  • solvents and thinners
  • items containing mercury
  • cleaners and detergents
  • poisons
  • ammunition
  • fireworks and flares
  • paint and paint products
    • latex and acrylic paint, oil-based paint, enamel, stains, lacquers, shellacs, varnishes, primers, etc.
  • propane and compressed gas cylinders
  • batteries
    • automotive, rechargeable, button, alkaline
  • gas / diesel / fuels
  • motor oil and antifreeze
  • medical sharps in OSHA-approved, puncture-proof containers

DO NOT BRING:

  • items containing asbestos
  • garbage or trash
  • liquids in containers larger than five gallons

Did you know that you can bring your full Sharps Containers to the Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District at 280 SE Third Street in Clatskanie Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm? Bring your full sharps container for proper disposal and receive a new empty container at no cost.

The Columbia County Sheriff accepts expired or unwanted medication at 901 Port Ave., St. Helens. They are open 7 days per week, 8:30am - 5:00pm. Place items in the MedReturn collection box.

The next county-sponsored HHW collection will be on October 22, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the St. Helens Transfer Station.
